Rules

We get a lot of "newbies", so #California has some guidelines to ensure that they get a good impression of our channel and of "IRC" the first time they're online.
  1. Please do not join or sit in channels with sexually explicit names, or references to illegal sexual acts, such as #animal_sex, #rape_your_mama, or #father_daughter_sex while you are in #California. We do not condone such channels or behaviors and ask that you do not participate in such channels while in #California.
  2. Do not use CAPS in the channel. It is considered shouting on IRC.
  3. No obscenity, profanity or sexually explicit talk. There are ways of chatting without being offensive. Please respect all users, and refrain from using bad language. It will not be tolerated! If you dont want your spouse/children/parents to know/read/hear about it, dont do/join/say it here!
  4. English Only please. We understand that a lot of people from around the world come to California to chat with each other. As a courtesy to everyone in #California please speak English.
  5. No nicks that are profane, drug-related, obscene, or offensive to anyone.
  6. No flooding, repeating, nuking, bots or clones.
  7. No prejudiced comments of any nature. They will not be tolerated.
  8. Turn off all AUTO SENDS of files to users upon their joining #California. If some one wants your files, they can and probably will ask for them.
  9. Please... No ascii pics (text files that look like a picture) over 6 lines. They flood the already crowded channel with too much text. Thank you!
  10. Do not advertise or invite to other channels while in #California. #California is not a place for advertising your web site either. However, if some one asks you for your URL, please feel free to give it to them privately.
  11. #California is not a pick-up channel. Do not do a/s/l ,CTC, or advertise yourself while in #California.
  12. Please feel free to play waves. We just ask that you do not play sexually or obscenely named waves. If you use an !autoget to get wavs, please be kind and accept the transfer or turn off your autoget.
  13. Please do not be offensive or abusive to the operators of the channel. They are there to make sure that the channel is a fun FAMILY channel for all to enjoy.
  14. We ask that you do not lurk while in #California. Lurkers (users with extended idle times of 1 hour or more), will be kicked out of the channel. IRC is not a spectator sport.
What happens if someone breaks the rules?
  1. First the user will be warned. If he/she continues...
  2. Then the user will be kicked. If he/she continues...
  3. Then the user will be banned.
  4. At times, due to the nature of the offense, an op may kick or ban without giving a warning.
We do not allow violations of the rules to go without penalty!

For more information feel free to ask any of the users in the "nicknames list" indicated to be an OP with a @ symbol by their nick.

Note: All rules will be enforced by our Ops at their OWN discretion and the other Ops will back up each others decision, so talking another Op into unbanning you will not work. Ops will try to be fair to all users. These rules are not set because we are power hungry or wish to spoil anyone's fun, but it has been found that some guidelines are needed because the channel has grown so much in the last few years. If you see a subject that interests you, feel free to join in. Above all... Have fun!
